Raising funds for Pancake Day

Posted August 21, 2013 in Community Featured

For the second year, Fareway and the Centerville Pancake Day Committee are teaming up to raise funds for this year’s Pancake Day.

Fareway will have a cookout on Friday, Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meal will consist of a sliced pork loin sandwich, drink and chips for $4. Free delivery is available by calling 641-437-4102 by Aug. 28.

“Pancake Day is an important day to the community, and Fareway is excited to support Pancake Day as well as many other community events and activities,” says Centerville Fareway Manager Keith Voss.

Stop by and visit with Keith, meat department manager Larry Williams and some of the Pancake Day Committee members and support Pancake Day. Pancake Day T-shirts will also be available for sale at the cookout.

Back to school
Each year the Chamber of Commerce sponsors a picnic for the teachers as they get ready to head back to school for another year. We do this because we recognize how important education is to our community and its future. We have many excellent educators in Appanoose County, and we are appreciative of all they do to mold an eventual workforce that will be ready to handle the changing demands of employers and shape entrepreneurs that will drive the economy of the future.  So to all teachers out there:  thank you and best wishes for a great school year.

Serving the community
There is a saying in the Chamber world that goes like this: If you’ve seen one chamber of commerce, you’ve seen one chamber of commerce. Meaning that each and every chamber of commerce is different in its role in the community. As a small-town chamber of commerce, we serve the role as an information and referral source.  Don’t know where to call? Call the Chamber and we try to point you in the right direction. The Chamber is always seeking ways to better serve the community.

Coming Home
We have added a section on our website called “Coming Home.”  We added this because we always get a lot of calls in the fall about class reunions and homecoming information. We hope to post the schedule for homecoming and information about classes holding reunions. If you are organizing a class reunion and would like to post information, please contact us and we will add it to our website.

Fall is the most exciting time in Appanoose County. Take time to enjoy the many events that are coming up, and take time to thank the volunteers who work to make the events a success.
