Norma Lucille (Hensyel) Harsh, 90 passed away peacefully on Sunday August 4, 2013 at Wesley Acres.

Norma was born in Lacey, IA to John L. and Hazel (Silvers) Hensyel and was the oldest daughter of four children. They moved to Des Moines in 1936 from a small farm in Wright, IA. Her family lived on the south side of Des Moines and she attended Lincoln High School. On October 12, 1940 Norma was united in marriage to Fred E. Harsh.

She worked for Bishops Cafeteria for a number of years and enjoyed family gatherings, gardening and sewing. She was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible and Fort Des Moines Open Bible Church. Norma was married for 64 years to Fred, who was a veteran of World War II and preceded her in death on November 7, 2004.

Norma is survived by two daughters, Shirley McBride of Chesterfield, MI and Cheryl (Boyd) Rydel of Omaha, NE; son, Ron (Annie) Harsh of Tuscon, AZ; four grandchildren, Randy (Julie) Weller, Angela (Mark) Ogden, Ronnie (Shelly) Harsh, Sara (Eamon) Lawless; eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister, Betty Lee (Dale) Schwartz of Ottumwa, IA and brother, Robert Hensyel of Prosser, WA as well as by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Norma was also preceded in death by her brother Raymond Hensyel and two grandsons, Mick Weller and Daniel Rydel. Visitation will be Friday, August 30, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brooks South Town Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 31 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
