Back to school

Posted August 21, 2013 in Community Featured, Waukee

As you prepare for back to school and fall sports, we hope you will think first about the local businesses in Waukee that can get your Warrior ready for another school year. These local businesses and Chamber members are the ones that support the school and community and make Waukee a great place to live. Stop in and patronize one today; I know you will be glad you did.

The Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce had another great summer and is looking forward to fall. Charter Bank was declared the winner of the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce 2013 Cow Patty Business Bingo event at 4:05 p.m. on Thursday, July 18 at Gilcrest/Jewett Lumber Company, Inc. in Waukee. The patty was dropped in square G3 after only five minutes on the Cow Patty grid. Charter Bank wins a full page ad in the Waukee Chamber Directory and Community Guide, printed by Waukee Living magazine as well as the Cow Patty Business Bingo trophy, donated by American Awards. Thank you to Gilcrest/Jewett Lumber Company, Inc. for hosting and to all of our bingo sponsors and members in attendance for a quick evening of networking and root beer floats.

Thanks to our Chamber volunteers and board members who helped organize and a special thank you to Joe and Brenda Brewer of Brewer Family Farms for bringing cows Ted and Zoey out for the event. Event photos are available for viewing at!/waukeechamber.

The Chamber hosted its July Networking Luncheon at the Tavern Restaurant, sponsored by The Des Moines Register and helped member Terry Snyder Photography celebrate her 20-year business anniversary in Waukee. The Chamber’s Business After Hours was sponsored by Peoples Trust and Savings Bank, Fireplace & Stone and Mr. Fix It/ Remodelworks with Brew & Brats at the Bank in early August.

As you prepare for fall and the start of another school year, take time to come join us at one of our upcoming Chamber events.  Join us at Hy-Vee for a grand opening celebration on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 9 a.m. The School Board Election Forum will be held at the Theatre Arts Building on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Come and get to know the seven candidates running for four open school board seats. The Chamber’s inaugural Waukee Economic Development Bus Tour is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. and will highlight development projects in Waukee and provide information about our growing community and school district.

Several ribbon cutting events are scheduled throughout the month of September. The next Chamber Networking Luncheon will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 11:30 a.m., and the next Business After Hours will be hosted by Actis Wealth Management on Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. To find out more about these events or the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce, please contact Melinda Behn at the Chamber office at 515-978-7115, or visit us online at
