August 13, 2013 – The Boone County Historical Society (BCHS) will be hosting its inaugural 5K run/walk and summer fest on Saturday, August 24, 2013. All fitness levels welcome! This event is designed for the whole family to enjoy!
The race will start at 5:30 p.m. and finish at the Historical Center, 602 Story Street, Boone, IA. The route winds by many of Boone’s finest historic sites and houses, so runners are encouraged to run in historic costume. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd men’s and women’s places, as well as in the categories of best historic costume and best historic group costume. You might find yourself running alongside Mamie Doud Eisenhower, Kate Shelley, or even Theodore Roosevelt!
Registration is available at www.getmeregistered.com and the afternoon of the race at 4:30 p.m. The registration fee is $40 for all participants. The first 200 registrants will receive an exclusive race day cooler. All race participants will receive a goody bag, entrance to our post-race summer fest, a family museum pass, and a free meal including award-winning pork by Troy’s Runnin’ BBQ.
All community members, even those who do not plan participate in the 5K run/walk are invited to join the BCHS for our summer fest from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. outside the Historical Center. Music will be provided by the Bill Martin Group. The fest will include food and root beer floats for purchase, as well as beverages from the Boone Valley Brewery.
