Top ways to CONSERVE water and SAVE money

Posted August 19, 2013 in Community Blogs, Clive

– Water your lawn only when it needs it. Step on your grass, if it springs back when you lift your foot, it doesn’t need water.
– Don’t water in the rain, cut back on cool and overcast days.
– Don’t water on windy days, there’s too much evaporation.
– Set lawn mower blades one notch higher; longer grass means less evaporation.
– Adjust your sprinklers so water lands on your grass or garden, not sidewalks, driveways, etc.
– Put a layer of mulch around trees and plants to help slow down evaporation.
– Water during the coolest parts of the day; early morning is better than dusk as it helps prevent the growth of fungus.
– Tell your children not to play with the garden hose and allow them to play in the sprinklers only when you’re watering the yard.
– Use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways and sidewalks. Do not sweep dirt and debris into the street.
