image001Jaycees Boat/Bike/Bus Poker Run – August 17, 2013. Sponsored by the Clear Lake Jaycees, this action-packed, fun-filled day is a poker run with a twist – do it with whatever transportation you wish. With locations all across town and around the lake, you can easily complete the task by boat, bicycle, motorcycle, car/truck/bus, or even walking. To complete the run, you must register between 10-11am at The Landing for $20, make it to at least five of the predetermined destinations and return to the Landing by 3pm to be dealt your poker hand. The best 5 card hand wins! Bonuses cards will be dealt for making it to all the stops. Also included in the fun, is a scavenger hunt – fun for all ages! Cash prizes to be awarded for the top three poker hands and various prizes associated with the scavenger hunt. See for more information. Two Free Workshops for Families of Children Receiving Special Education Services-  August 17, 2013, 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM; 10:0am-12:00pm The Six Principals of IDEA 12:00-1:00pm Lunch; 1:00-3:30pm IEP on IEPs. The Six Principals of IDEA (Individuals with Disability Education Act) workshop is designed as an introduction of the underlying principals of the law. Participants will increase their understanding of: The basic concepts of IDEA; The rights of parents and students in the IEP process; How to effectively advocate for your child; Options available when you disagree with your IEP team

The second workshop, IEP (Information Especially for Parents) on IEPs (Individual Education Plan) increases the understanding of participants between the IDEA principles and the actual process of writing your child’s IEP document. We recommend attendees have basic knowledge of, or have attended, the Six Principals of IDEA. Participants will increase their understanding of: How the IEP team members interact with each other; How a team makes decision; How to advocate and reach agreement about your child’s program; Lunch & child care provided. Pioneer Kids Day – August 18, 2013, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Roast hot dogs and s’mores over an open fire, play old-fashioned competitive games like sack races and win prizes! Take in a magic show and visit the craft persons demonstrating their skills. Kinney Pioneer Museum. Museum admission is $3 adults, $1 children 12 and under.
