James Hall

James Hall

James Milton Hall was born January 26, 1941 to Ralph and Katherine Hall of Elkhart, Iowa. He went home on August 9, 2013 to sing in the Heavenly Choir. All of his family preceded him in death, with the exception of his former wife, Beth, who lives in Mississippi. Jim was a professional musician, a dedicated bridge player, and an Air Force veteran.

He played for the First Methodist Church at Ankeny, Iowa, the Union Park Christian Church, the Union Park Methodist Church, the Union Park Presbyterian Church, and several others.

Jim was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and a Gold Life Master with over 3300 points. He was the favorite partner of Wayne Sands, author of several Bridge instruction books, now of Phoenix, Arizona. Together they won three 1st place and two 2nd place NABC regional tournaments and many local and sectional events. His wife said he had played with Omar Sharif once upon a time in Europe.

Jim enlisted in the Air Force and was chosen for the Choir. He was an excellent tenor and made the rank of Sergeant. He always said that getting out of the Air Force was one of the dumbest things that he had done. Where else could you get paid for doing what you loved, a roof over your head with 3 squares provided to boot?

A memorial remembrance will be held at Union Park Presbyterian Church at E. 13th and Thompson Ave., Des Moines, Iowa during the 10 AM Sunday Service on September 1, 2013.

His urn will be interred at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter, Iowa on September 6, 2013 at 2 PM.
