Alan and Jacquelyn Schultz and their daughter, Harlow, are right at home in their house on Applewood Street.

When choosing a home to buy last year, it was important to Alan and Jacquelyn Schultz to surround themselves with things they value. Although neither of them are originally from Ankeny, they’d lived in town long enough to know they wanted to stay here.

Alan had just graduated from UNI in 2008 when he and Jacquelyn decided to move to the Des Moines area. They chose to live in Ankeny as it was a short commute for Jacquelyn to finish her degree at ISU. They rented a home in central Ankeny, and while the motivation to move here was mainly because of the short drive times, they have stayed in town for what Ankeny has to offer.

“We have been incredibly impressed with the family-friendly environment Ankeny prides itself with,” Alan says. “We’ve also really enjoyed living in such an active community — including bike trails, fishing ponds, city parks, farmers market, aquatic centers, access to Saylorville Lake and fun city activities.”

Last summer Alan and Jacquelyn welcomed their first child, Harlow, to their family.  They were ready to buy a home and knew they wanted to stay in Ankeny. The question was,  where in Ankeny would they buy?

Schultz - WWL Aug (2)After months of searching, they found their perfect home on the southwest side of town on Applewood Street. Alan says they enjoy their neighborhood because “it’s close enough, yet far enough away.” Friends, shopping, entertainment, Sawgrass Park and the interstate are close, but the neighborhood is tucked away on the edge of town where there is less traffic and plenty of trees.

A few of the Schultz’s favorite things about their home are the open floor plan, fireplace, master bedroom suite, hardwood floors, large yard and garden. The house also features a large den which Jacquelyn uses as her office for her in-home business, Pretty Pretties Boutique. The home is surrounded by trees and backs into a lush wooded area with a creek. They like that this allows them to admire the beauty nature has to offer while still having neighbors, an elementary school and a park nearby. The Schultzes have found a home they love in an area they value and plan to stay for years to come.
