On Sunday, Aug. 18, during the 9 a.m. worship service at St. Peter Lutheran Church, children are invited to bring their backpacks for the annual “Blessing of the Backpacks” event to kick off the school year.
The event, where children are invited to bring their backpacks up for a blessing during the Children’s Message portion of the service, emphasizes the ties between faith and education for the children of the congregation.
A youth group kickoff event for all sixth-12th grade youth will also be held on Aug. 18 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the home of two congregation members. A grill-out is planned with hot dogs and burgers, and outdoor games will be played. Youth are also encouraged to bring their friends.
