DES MOINES—Pop-up sales of artisanal holiday wreaths come for the first time to four customer-friendly locations on Ingersoll Avenue, Valley Junction, the Shops at Roosevelt, and the East Village on Saturday, September 14.
Members of the Des Moines Founders Garden Club will take orders for the specialty wreaths, including two custom-designed, limited-edition styles. All proceeds from the 2013 Holiday Wreath Sale go to community beautification and conservation projects, including the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden’s expansion.
Club members will accept orders for wreaths, boxwood topiaries, and blooming white moth orchids at four outdoor locations in Des Moines from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: The Shops at Roosevelt on 42nd Street; next to Kitchen Collage, 430 E. Locust St. in the East Village; next to Cownie Furs, 2819 Ingersoll Ave.; and on the west side of the 200 block of Fifth Street in Valley Junction. Wreath prices range from $100 to $45.

Pre-ordered wreaths and holiday accents will be available for pickup on Thursday, Nov. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Windsor Heights Community Center in Colby Park, 6900 School Street.
The limited-edition wreath styles, custom designed by club members, begin with 24-inch fresh fir wreathes adorned with pine cones, golden cedar, and blue juniper. One is embellished with gilded pinecones, berry springs, magnolia leaves, and an elegant shimmering gold ribbon; the other features dried fruits, cinnamon stick bundles, berry sprigs, and a classic red ribbon.
The other wreaths are 24-inch fresh fir with pine cones, golden cedar, blue juniper, and a red ribbon; a 20-inch fresh boxwood wreath that lasts well into winter; and 24-inch fresh magnolia wreath that dries for everlasting beauty.
Holiday accents include 15-inch fresh boxwood topiaries shaped like fir trees, and blooming white moth (Phaelanopsis) orchids.
The Des Moines Founders Garden Club, established in 1938, is a member of The Garden Club of America. Throughout its history, club members have worked on community beautification, education, and conservation programs that benefit parks and public spaces around greater Des Moines, the state of Iowa, and the country.
