Lyle “Woodie” Wilson Woodruff of Maxwell, IA, formerly from Elroy, WI, stepped into eternity on August 12, 2013. Lyle was born on October 7, 1927, to Wilson and Edith (Eastwood) Woodruff.

Lyle was preceded into eternity by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Marie of Maxwell, IA. Lyle and Marie were married in December 1967, and they joined two families of six children to form one. Lyle is survived by all six children, Jeffrey Woodruff of Gold Canyon, AZ, Duain Woodruff of South Windham, CT, Barbara Atwood of Chula Vista, CA, Constance (Kenneth) Crothers of Wisconsin Dells, WI, Pamela (Rufus) Parker of La Crosse, WI, and Sherri (Todd) Roberts of Maxwell, IA. He is also survived by two brothers, David (Jeanette) Woodruff of La Crosse, WI and Jonathan (Rose) Woodruff of Sturtevant, WI; two sisters, Elizabeth (Gerald) Pelishek of Darien, WI and Virginia (John) Wastlick of Cazenovia, WI; sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. To anyone who would listen, Lyle always had a story at hand bragging about his family.

Lyle began his work career working for a farmer for twenty-five cents for the whole summer season. He worked hard, and the next season he earned a whole dollar. Additionally, he helped his dad train trotter horses. Over his lifetime, he enjoyed many careers such as being a judge, a realtor, a dispatcher, head of security at a resort, and over-the-road truck driver. His favorite was as an over-the-road truck driver from which he retired in 1982 after thirty-three years. Twenty eight and one half of those years were with the same company, while being a proud Teamster.

A memorial service for Lyle will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 15 at Iles Funeral Homes-Grandview Park Chapel in Des Moines, IA. Interment will be held at a later date.

Lyle was an avid supporter of organizations that impacted the lives of many by offering assistance in times of special need, along with spreading God’s salvation plan. Memorial contributions may be directed to Samaritan’s Purse International Relief P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
