Dorris L. Mefford, 90, passed from this life on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines. In agreement with her wishes, graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Dorris was born on December 1, 1922, in Booneville, IA, to Walter Charles and Mary Lee (Breech) Walston. She was a graduate of Adel High School. Dorris was united in marriage to Vincent L. Mefford and they made their home in Des Moines. She was formerly employed as an assistant to the Windsor Heights City Clerk. For nearly nine years, Dorris and Vincent owned and operated the Dairy Queen on Douglas Avenue east of Merle Hay Mall. She was a member of Windsor Heights Lutheran Church. Dorris enjoyed playing cards and loved her summers at the lake. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marsha (Michael Graboski) Mefford of Windsor Heights, IA; sister, Ella (Leon) Young of Adel, IA; two grandsons, Tim (April) Mefford of Portland, OR and Steve (Pam) Mefford of Urbandale; and four great-grandchildren, Isadora Mefford, Cyrus Mefford, Alyssa Mefford and Emily Mefford. Dorris was preceded into eternal life by her parents; husband, Vincent L. Mefford; son, Vincent C. Mefford; and brother, Charles Walston
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 16, at Iles Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel in Des Moines.
