The mission of the West Side Chamber of Commerce? To advance the economic, industrial, professional, cultural and civic welfare of Des Moines’ west side with meaningful professional opportunities and to support activities beneficial to the community.
The weeks ahead are chock full of events that drive home those very goals — to serve not only area businesses but also the community as whole.
Aug. 20: Business After Hours, 5 – 6:30 p.m. at Freedom Financial Bank, 600 MLK Parkway. This Business After Hours will toast the retirement of former West Side Chamber President and area banker Dave Nagel.
Aug. 21: Wake Up West Side, 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. at Edward Jones, 1129 42nd St. in the Uptown Shopping Center. Meet other west side business leaders at this networking event hosted by West Side Chamber member Daniel Evans, who serves on the Chamber’s marketing committee.
Aug. 24: 2013 Ingersoll Live: Rockin’ the Restoration, 2 – 11 p.m. on Ingersoll Avenue between 28th and 29th Streets. The West Side Chamber is a sponsor of Ingersoll Business Committee’s Ingersoll Live, a celebration to showcase the people, restaurants, bars and shops that make the Ingersoll area unique and to support Restoration Ingersoll efforts. The family-friendly fun will kick off with an appearance by crowd favorite Isiserettes Drum and Drill Corps, followed by music at 2:30 p.m. from Grammy nominated Justin Roberts, acclaimed singer-songwriter of children’s music. Also appearing: Americana roots rock band Brother Trucker at 6:30 p.m. and headliner Faculty Lounge at 9 p.m. An artists’ alley, food and drink stands, dunk tank, children’s bounce house and games and a valet for those wanting to bike to the event are all part of day’s festivities.
This year’s event is a special celebration marking the area’s achievement of being designated as an official “TIF and SSMID district” by working through the public process and formal city channels. This will enable the area to execute plans for future development and restoration for the betterment of the commercial districts and residential neighborhoods.
Sept. 12: New Member Orientation followed by Business After Hours, 4 – 4:30 p.m. All Chamber members or those interested in learning more about the advantages of being involved in the West Side Chamber are invited to a brief orientation that will spotlight member benefits, networking events, member tools and marketing and leadership opportunities. Then enjoy networking, appetizers and a complimentary cocktail hosted by The Star Bar.
There is no better time for area businesses and leaders who aren’t already West Side Chamber members to join. In addition to the many networking and leadership opportunities Chamber membership provides, new members who join now for 2013 and 2014 will receive a deep discount on 2013 dues.
