Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago we were talking about RUNorwalk, graduations, Memorial Day and waiting for summer to get here? And now it is almost over.
In a few weeks, school, football, volleyball and cross country will all be starting, and the lazy days of summer will be behind us.
The Chamber had a busy July with the Party before the Works event and then three ribbon cuttings for Iowa Distilling Company in Cumming, The Wright Storage and Norwalk’s Family Pet Veterinary Center. We also have gained another Chamber member — Warren County Agricultural Extension District.
In August we will have our annual picnic in the park welcoming approximately eight new teachers/administrators to the Norwalk area. This is a very well-attended Chamber luncheon, as everyone likes to get outside for a picnic during their day. Also in August, I encourage everyone to join Mitch Phipps as he does a community project to thank our Norwalk Fire and Police personnel and raise funds for a community recreation center. This event will be held Aug. 14 at the Norwalk swimming pool, 5 – 8 p.m. Cost is a free-will donation and swimming is free, so bring the entire family.
At our July board meeting, we had a special guest speaker — Chris Mason, who spoke about the non-profit group “Everybody Wins! Iowa.” If you are interested in volunteering some time to read to some kindergarten-third graders at Oviatt/Lakewood elementary this school year, sign up at www.everybodywinsiowa.org or contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I hope you get to enjoy the last few weeks of summer and, as always, Remember to Shop Local! Shop Norwalk.
