Sam McReynolds, 96, of Des Moines died Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Arbor Springs Care Center in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 8 at Easton Place United Methodist Church, 2412 Easton Blvd., Des Moines of which he was a long-time member. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Sam was born February 24, 1917 in Fairmont, IA, one of the twelve children of Charles and Jamima (Hevlin) McReynolds. He and Margaret Schrader were married May 4, 1940 and after 1947 made their home in Des Moines. Sam retired in 1977 after 30 years at John Deere Des Moines Works but remained active with the John Deere Retirees.

Sam was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He loved playing cribbage but was often accused of miscounting (cheating.) He will be remembered for the quiet way he brought joy and laughter to his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Margaret; son, Chuck McReynolds; son-in-law, Terry Lacher and great granddaughter, Samantha McReynolds. He is survived by three children, Ruby (Michael) Triplett of Naples, FL, Carl (Jeanie) McReynolds of Lake Ozark, MO and Cheryl (Jim) Spina of Pleasant Hill; 17 grandchildren Michael McReynolds, Lynnette (Tim) Kline, Sean McReynolds, Brett (Jennifer) McReynolds, Michael (Deanna) Triplett, Kelley McReynolds (fiancé, Anne Schmitt), Eric (Melissa) McReynolds, Chris Lacher, Amber (Derek) Webb, Shannon (Dave) Cosgrove, Ryan (Janelle) Loftin, Aaron Loftin, Joseph Spina, Tony Spina, Nicole Spina, Jamie Spina and Jessica Spina; 13 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Iles Funeral Homes – Grandview Park Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Easton Place Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
