Darlene Palmer, 88, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, August 9 at Brooks South Town Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Darlene was born in Jefferson, IA on March 12, 1925 to Ernest and Della Rockwell and was one of eight children. She graduated from Albia High School in 1943 and married Earl Palmer on November 28, 1946. Darlene was employed as a cook in the Food Services Department for the Des Moines Public School System for many years.
Darlene was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church as well as the Baldwin Patterson American Legion Auxiliary #274. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who was always willing to help others. She had a green thumb and loved flowers. Darlene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her memory will be cherished by three sons, Ernest (Paulette) Palmer, Craig (Peggy) Palmer and David Palmer; nine grandchildren, Stacie Ramsey, Shani Palmer, Cory Gymer, Tashia Bishop, Christ Palmer, Randy Palmer, Tony Palmer, Amber Palmer and J.J. Parkhurst; eleven great-grandchildren and two brothers, Richard (Delores) Rockwell and Clarence (Shirley) Rockwell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; parents and five siblings.
