Robert Asbille, 88, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Indianola. Funeral services will be held 10 am Monday, August 5, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Robert was born February 4, 1925, in St. Louis, MO to Charles and Marie (Bentlage) Asbille. He was first in his family to receive a high school diploma as well as graduating from college earning two Bachelor’s Degrees in History and Journalism. Robert served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre as an ensign in communications during World War II. He married Lorayne Watt on January 20, 1945, in St. Louis, MO. Robert was an editor and worked in several departments at the Des Moines Tribune for 34 years, retiring in 1982. He continued to work in Journalism after his retirement. Robert enjoyed gardening, travelling and spending time with his family

Robert is survived by his children, Robert C. (Marija) Asbille of Chicago, Linda Asbille of Indianola and Jim (Juli) Asbille of West Des Moines; and his grandchildren, Tedd Asbille of Pasadena, CA, and A.J. and Julienne Asbille of West Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lorayne and his daughter, Jeanne.
