Background: The Polk County Board of Supervisors awarded the construction bid to Edge Commercial at their meeting on July 30, 2013. Construction is expected to begin on August 5th with completion in mid-February, 2014. The City of West Des Moines provided the land to Polk County for the Community Center. The architect of record on the project is Shive-Hattery, Inc.
The new 10,100 square foot Community Center will include a multi-function dining room with a capacity of 216, fully operational kitchen, card/computer room and lounge, billiards, craft and kiln room, fitness and class room, medical room with waiting area, office space, handicapped restrooms, on-site parking and an outdoor patio.
Polk County provides senior congregate meals and supportive services to seniors age 60 and older across Polk County. The West Des Moines Congregate Meal Site is currently located at the 217 – 5th Street in West Des Moines and is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Center will relocate to the new facility in the Spring of 2014.
