The 34th Annual Adel Sweet Corn Festival is almost here. After months of planning and hundreds of volunteer hours, the Chamber is excited to welcome everyone to this year’s event.
The festivities begin on Friday evening with the annual corn shucking. The shucking process begins at 5:30 p.m. at 10th and Prairie. Everyone is encouraged to come and help prepare the corn for Saturday. There will be music from Knight Life DJ and beverages from Culligan Water and Corner Tap. Adel After-Prom will be sponsoring a teen dance from 8:30 – 11 p.m. on the stage lawn.
Saturday activities begin with the Ninth Annual Sweet Corn Festival 5k at 8 a.m. Both runners and walkers are welcome. You can register online at http://adelsweetcorn5k.com/.
The parade, which is the largest in Dallas County, begins at 9:30 a.m. Participants can line up near the brick plant starting at 8:30 a.m. The parade proceeds down Main Street to 11th Street then turns, ending on Greene Street.
After the parade, head downtown to visit the 80 food, informational and arts and craft booths. There will also be a car show, children’s rides and entertainment throughout the day. Daytime entertainment on the stage includes music from Nice Bangs, the Bill Riley Talent Show and performances by Adel Dance Club and Let’s Dance. There will also be entertainment on the courthouse lawn, including hula hoop performances and lessons from Sparkle Hoop Dance and performances by Adel Tumbling Club and GottaZING! As the day winds down, head to the beer garden where Brother Trucker and Throwing Toast will be performing on the stage.
