James ‘Jim’ Smith, age 89, of 1327 Union Street, died July 22, 2013, at the Boone County Hospital.

His body has been cremated and Graveside Services will be Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Linwood Park Cemetery. Burial will follow the service.

Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Friday from 2 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m.

Jim was born in Moville, Iowa, on April 19, 1924, the son of John and Wilhelmina (Sargent) Smith.

On May 23, 1945, he married Donna Steininger in Boone.

In earlier years, Jim farmed north of Boone.

He then worked as a classified molder for Quinn Machine & Foundry from 1944 to 1948.

In 1948, he began working for the George A. Rolfes Co. and was supervisor over the welders and painters for the grain aeration equipment in Boone and Trenton, Missouri.

He retired in 1987.

Jim and Donna lived in Trenton from 1977 to 1997, when the couple returned to Boone.

Jim was a member of the Moose Lodge #104, the former Boone Elks Club, a member and past president of the Boone and Ogden Saddle Clubs.

He served as ring master at the Boone County Fair, the Ogden Saddle Club, and the Boone Saddle Club where he helped weld its horse ring.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served on the Boone County Fair Board.

Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, and loved raising, showing, and riding Quarter and Appaloosa horses.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jack, and two sisters Wilma Carlson and Margaret Crouse Kardell.

He is survived by his wife Donna of Boone; a son Jerry Smith of Trenton, Missouri; a daughter Diane Cox and husband Kim of Boone; two grandchildren Joel Cox of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Isha Casey and husband Mark of Boone; a great-granddaughter Rylin Casey of Boone; and several nieces and nephews.

In memory of Jim, memorials may be directed to the family.
