Students have fun at vacation Bible school at Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville.

As summer heats up, we look for ways to cool down, and Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville has the solution.

The church would like to invite everyone to its annual ice cream social on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 4 p.m. There will be homemade ice cream, baked goods, games and activities for all.

In addition to the summer festivities the church has another big reason to celebrate — the return of Rev. Sara Galindo. Galindo was in a car accident on Jan. 28 and sustained several critical injuries including two spine fractures, broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a bruised kidney and a large gash to the head, causing a traumatic brain injury.  It was touch and go, and after two brain surgeries and other procedures Galindo was moved to a rehabilitation hospital in Lincoln, Neb. on March 14. Galindo was alert and coherent but still weak and injured. Then, miraculously, she walked out of the hospital just two and half weeks later and returned home. The first week of June marked Galindo’s glorious return to the church where she resumed as pastor, part time.

“Today I am feeling wonderful,” she declares.

She continues to visit the doctor to do physical therapy and is getting stronger every day.

For more information, peruse the church’s website at www.centervillechristian.com or stop in at 303 Drake Ave. in Centerville.

Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia wants everyone to know that unlike Trix cereal, Sunday school isn’t just for kids.  While the church does offer Sunday school for children in the nursery and on up to high school seniors, they also currently have seven adult groups as well. All age groups attend from 9:30 – 10:20 a.m. just prior to worship at 10:30 a.m. The adult classes cover basic Bible studies and more specialized topics, too. One class focuses specifically on learning more about Revelations. There’s another for those in college and just graduated that helps with their unique transitional phase.

For more information, and to join in, stop by the church at 405 Myra Lane in Moravia or peruse the church’s website at www.moravianazarene.com.
