Ralph H. Wonderlin, 79, of Des Moines died at home of heart failure on Friday, July 19, 2013. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.

Ralph was born on June 29, 1934 in Des Moines to Roland “Ralph” and Catherine (Hansman) Wonderlin. He graduated from Holy Trinity Grade School, Dowling High School and Creighton University as a pharmacist. He served in the U.S. Army before returning to Des Moines. He then moved to New York, New York where he lived for 50 years and worked as a pharmacist for Con Edison of New York. He came back to Des Moines nine years ago.

Ralph volunteered at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. He was a member of the Des Moines Opera, Metropolitan and Symphony Guilds. He loved the Arts, including opera and ballet. He will be remembered as a terrific uncle who was loving and generous to his great nieces.

Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Larry J. (Mary Ann) Wonderlin of Des Moines; two nieces, Cathie (Bruce) Brown and Vicki Morlan (Brett Rhoads); nephew, Brett Wonderlin; three great nieces, Kennedy and Mary Louise Brown and Autumn Rhoads; and great nephew, Bradley. He was preceded in death by his partner, Louis Aidala; parents, Ralph and Kate Wonderlin; brother, Richard Wonderlin; and nephew, Roland “Rolly” Wonderlin.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church or the Des Moines Metro Opera.
