Interment will be in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, next to the church.

JoAnne was born on June 18, 1933, the daughter of William and Addie Blanche (Dutton) McVicker. JoAnne attended Garfield Elementary School and graduated from Boone High School on May 29, 1951.

On June 24, 1951, JoAnne married Louis Eugene Leininger. JoAnne and Louis moved to a farmstead northeast of Boone in August 1951. The couple decided to move to town in 1997. The couple celebrated their Golden Anniversary on June 24, 2001. Louis passed on December 16, 2002.

JoAnne was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aid Society where she held various offices. She was a church youth counselor for several years.

In 1951, JoAnne worked at the Woolworth Store, then from 1985 – 1986 she worked at Walt’s Hallmark Store. From May 1986 to August 2012, JoAnne worked at Bacon’s Jewelry Store – all in Boone. JoAnne truly enjoyed her job at Bacons and enjoyed the interaction with all the customers. She worked fulltime until she was diagnosed; she so appreciated everyone attending her “Retirement Party” at 79 years young.

JoAnne recently was surprised and honored when on her 80th birthday, she had 27 visitors from all over the country fly in to help her celebrate. Her birthday celebration followed by our annual McVicker Dutton Reunion and all the family that brought to town was truly a joy for her in her last days. JoAnne loved her home and family. Entertaining was her “Specialty”. She especially enjoyed her trips east to see the grandkids and her son and daughter-in-law, along with trips west to see folks in Arizona. JoAnne loved to camp and ski behind the boat – trips to Okoboji were always a good time. JoAnne supported the Boone County Relay for Life by decorating tables for over 10 years for the Annual Boone County Relay For Life Salad Social held every year in Boone. She also modeled several years at the event as a 22 year colon cancer survivor. She worked on the committee and was in charge of calling volunteers for salads and bars for the event. JoAnne loved to bowl – she started bowling in 1953 and bowled until last year. She was honored a couple years ago at a Banquet in Boone for bowling 50 years at the Bowl Mor & Imperial Lanes, on the Princess League, on Tuesday nights at 6:15 pm. JoAnne also enjoyed golf and decorating cakes. She decorated enough cakes to pay for a trip to Hawaii in Jan, 1976 for her 25th Wedding Anniversary with Bill & Joyce McVicker, Darrell & Ardith Tingwald, & Bud and Lois Haase. JoAnne is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her 3 sisters, Vivian Wirtz, Marjorie Pepper, Dorothy McMahon; her 3 brothers, Daryl McVicker, William McVicker and Gary McVicker.

JoAnne is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Ann Lenta (James) of Boone; her son, Kevin Eugene Leininger (Karen Brady) of Wrightstown, PA; her 3 grandchildren, Alexander Brady Leininger; Michael Kevin Leininger and Kathryn Ingrid Leininger; her brother, Marvin James McVicker of Boone and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Boone County.
