Summer Reading Wrap-Up Events

Summer Reading is almost over. Saturday, July 20th is the last day for kids, teens and adults to turn in any Summer Reading material before the big prize drawings for all ages. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our Summer Reading Finale programs listed below:

Dan’s Reading Road Trip: Story Time with Dan Wardell
Thursday, July 18;  10:15am or 11:15am
Join Dan Wardell, host of IPTV’s Kids Clubhouse, for some entertaining and interactive story time fun! No registration necessary.

Kids’ Summer Reading Finale: Magic Show with Jonathan May
Thursday, July 25;  1:00pm
Comedy magician, Jonathan May, will be here with his family-friendly magic show for our final Kids’ Summer Reading Program. All ages are welcome; no registration is required.

Creative Writing Workshop with author Sharelle Byars Moranville
Tuesday, July 16;  1:30pm
Sharelle Byars Moranville, author of the books The Hop, Over the River and A Higher Geometry, will discuss her books and show aspiring writers how to “dig for details.” This program is for tweens and teens. Call the Johnston Public Library at 515-278-5233 to register.

After Hours Game Show Mash-Up Party for Teens and Tweens

Love game shows? Come try your luck against your friends with our library versions of popular shows like Iron Chef, Silent Library, Minute to Win It and more! Earn library bucks to use at the prize auction at the end of the night. Lots of yummy snacks will be provided. This is a reward party and is open only to teen readers who have earned 500 points in the reading club. Registration is required. Teens must be entering grade 6 and up. Call the Johnston Public Library at 515-278-5233 to register, beginning July 19.

Jazz in July with Max Wellman
Sunday, July 21 at 6:00pm
Grab the lawn chairs and bring the family to the Johnston Commons to listen to great live music. This year, Max Wellman, a mainstay of the Des Moines Metro live jazz scene, will perform, along with a local opening band.
