The popular Grimes First Presbyterian Church ice cream social is slated for July 21 at 410 S.E. Third St.

It’s a perfect time of year for ice cream. That’s why Grimes First Presbyterian Church will once again host its annual ice cream social.

The gathering, set for Sunday, July 21, from 5 – 7 p.m., will include homemade ice cream, desserts, beef burgers, hot dogs, chips and refreshments, making it a popular dining event for all. The church is located at 410 S.E. Third St. in Grimes. The congregations welcomes the public to attend, and bring the whole family.

Sixteen St. Peter Lutheran youth and four adults will be traveling to the Copperhill, Tenn., Smokey Mountains for their summer mission trip. The group will be helping with a vacation Bible school program as well as helping with home repairs for families in the area. The group will leave on Saturday, July 20 and return on Sunday, July 28. The St. Peter Lutheran congregation will be praying that this will be an uplifting experience for those participating, and that they will share Christ’s love with those they meet along the way.

Crossroads Community Church will be meeting at Jester Park on Sunday, Aug. 11 for its worship service and baptism at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is encouraged to come out to the service, stay for a cookout for lunch or camp the whole weekend at Jester Park.

Everyone is invited to Crossroads Community Church’s Ministry Fair at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Grimes Community Complex This is a great opportunity for everyone to see what happens at Crossroads and how you can join in serving your community.

The 2013 annual corn feed will take place on July 20, from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. at Grimes United Methodist Church. This includes all-you-can-eat sweet corn plus hot dogs, coleslaw, beans and drinks. A free will offering will be received this year with all proceeds going to Word Made Flesh ministries supporting the children in Moldova.

In other Grimes UMC news, the church has recently hired a new communications coordinator, Meredith Spragg. Spragg will be helping the church manage its social media and website, as well as other forms of communication to reach members of the community and bring them to Jesus. Grimes UMC is hoping to use technology in a positive way to reach out to the community and current members of the church.
