Discussion on immigration reform

Sandra Sanchez, one of the most recognized, trusted and experienced leaders on immigrant rights in the state of Iowa, will speak on the impact of immigration reform at noon, Aug. 6 in Meeting Room One.

Sanchez was co-organizer with Alex Orozco for central Iowa’s “United for the Safety and Dignity of Immigrants” and with Alex and Sonia Parras, is a co-organizer of the statewide “Immigrant Safety Network.” Bring your lunch and enjoy this information-packed program. There will be time for questions.

This program is presented by the Iowa International Center with generous support from DuPont Pioneer Hi-Bred, Drake University, the Greater Des Moines Partnership and the Des Moines Public Library. Raw food orientation and tasting

Des Moines’ second annual Raw Food Week, Aug. 19 – 25, is a series of events designed to inspire attendees to learn about the raw food movement. At this orientation, Raw Food Week Founder Sheree Clark offers an introduction to the raw food lifestyle and an overview of the week’s activities while guest chef Brandy Lueders shares food samples.
