URBANDALE, Iowa – July 11, 2013 – The Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB) has selected the Urbandale High School Show Choir, Studio 2014, as the student talent group that will kick off their 68th annual convention on November 21, 2013, at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. After reviewing footage and applications from a multitude of performance groups, the IASB selected Studio 2014 to perform at their opening general session. As Studio 2013 was crowned the Grand Champion at Johnston’s Showzam Show Choir Competition this past January, the performance at the IASB by Studio 2014 is sure to inspire.
“Every year we are amazed by the pool of talented kids and we struggle to choose a single group for our opening session. This year, Urbandale’s Studio 2014 was outstanding! They portray just the right note of enthusiasm and energy to kick off our event,” said Lou Ann Gvist, IASB Convention Director.
Urbandale High School has a long tradition of success and accomplishments in show choir. Studio is a name recognized both locally and nationally as a leader in performance excellence. Student participants and show choir directors invest countless hours before, during and after school in the pursuit of achieving mastery. It is this type of pursuit that leads to more engaged and inspired learning environments and results in greater student achievement.
“A show choir is a tightly knit team where each individual is crucial to the group’s success. There is no ‘bench’ in show choir; every singer performs every performance,” said Ted Brimeyer, Vocal Music Director, Urbandale High School. “The students realize this, which creates a unique climate for collaboration: the choir can only succeed together. Our goal is to create a performance with a solid foundation in exceptional singing and performing. Our philosophy is to focus on giving our audience a first-rate, life-changing performance.”
The Urbandale Community School District celebrates the dedication and accomplishments of the UHS Show Choir teams. Their steadfast commitment to excellence aligns with the district’s focus on transforming education through the use of Quality learning practices. Quality learning is about the continual improvement of all learners in the system and redesigning learning environments to increase engagement, encourage collaboration and improve achievement. Incorporating quality and continual improvement is not an initiative that starts and ends. It’s an ongoing, fundamental paradigm shift at the core of reshaping learning throughout the district.
