What’s lurking Beneath the Surface at the Fort Dodge Public Library? That’s the theme for this summer’s Teen Summer Reading Program.
Teens completing grades six through 12 are eligible to participate in weekly trivia contests, a guessing game involving a jar of rocks, telling us about your good deeds and, of course, reading, reading, reading. Rita Schmidt is in charge of teen programming here at the library and, as always, has some great prizes that teens can earn by keeping up their reading skills this summer. Stop by the reference desk and register for the programs. Find out what’s lurking at your library.
Have you become NEIBORS yet? The North Eastern Iowa Bridge to Online Resource Sharing is the place to get downloadable e-books and audio books. With your Fort Dodge Library card, you have access to more than 6,000 e-books and audiobooks that can be checked out and read on your own smart phones, Nooks, iPads, Kindles — whatever device you have. All books are available for you to use for two weeks. The best part is they check in automatically when they’re due. Rachel has created some wonderful help sheets to guide you through the process of getting materials for your players. Stop by the information table across from the circulation desk and pick up what you need to get started.
Speaking of online resources, we also have a downloadable music service called Freegal. Each week, patrons can download three songs from the vast Sony music catalog to their favorite devices and keep them forever. For those families with multiple iPods, smart phones and players, that adds up to saving a lot of money during the year. Visit the Fort Dodge Public Library and pick up instruction sheets to help you get started on downloading music.
One more service to highlight this month is Zinio, our online magazine resource. We have collaborated with 11 other libraries in the area to share more than 200 online subscriptions to popular titles, as well as titles in more focused areas such as BMX, yoga, current events and decorating. Once you subscribe to a title, new issues will automatically be delivered to your email inbox. We have instructions available at the library and online to help you get started. Just visit our website at www.fortdodgeiow.org/library for this and information about all of our great services.Fort Dodge Public Library
