Darrell D. “Fuzzy” Carlson, 61, of Madrid, passed from this life on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at his summer home on the Lake of the Ozarks surrounded by loved ones. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Madrid. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, south of Madrid.
Darrell was a lifelong resident of Madrid, Iowa, born on February 16, 1952 to Marvin and Leora Carlson. He worked at John Deere Des Moines Works for 41 years, until his retirement in 2012. Darrell had many fond memories and shared many stories about his days at John Deere. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends and could often be found on the farm or tinkering in the garage. Whether it was motorcycles, skiing, or skydiving, he had a wild sense of adventure…”Yee haw, Leroy!”
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his son, Brandon (Jolynne) Carlson; daughter, Alicia (Jeremiah) Smith; and five grandchildren, Brandon, Olivia, and Megan Carlson, and Samantha and Quintin Smith. His sixth grandchild, Aiden Dean Smith, is expected in August. Darrell is also survived by two brothers, Ronnie (Vicki) Carlson and David (Debbie) Carlson; four sisters, Janet (Jim) Hurley, Rhonda (Dennis) Smeltzer, Patti (Randy) Pruismann and Sue (Mike) Nowels; and many nieces and nephews. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Leora; and one brother, Kenny.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, July 9, at Iles Funeral Homes, Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid.
