Donna Jean Sulser, age 82 of Centerville, Iowa died Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Golden Age Care Center, Centerville, Iowa.
She was born December 27, 1930 in Wayne County, Iowa, the daughter of Lowell Hamilton and Fern Leona (Bonebrake) Holmes Sr.. Donna was raised in Wayne County and attended elementary school in the Woodpecker/Jones area. She graduated from Promise City Middle School and attended Promise City High School. Donna was baptized in her early teen years at the Chariton River in the Woodpecker area.
Donna married Theodore W. Sulser on December 3, 1949 in Centerville, Iowa and to this union, three children were born, Kathy, Rita, and Theodore D. Sulser.
Donna worked at the Glove Factory in both Chariton, Iowa and Unionville, Missouri for 10-12 years. In 1964, she became employed with Union Carbide. Donna first worked in quality control for Union Carbide. She worked the latter half of her career as a supervisor in the finishing area. Donna retired from Union Carbide in 1989.
In her free time Donna enjoyed visiting residents at local hospitals and nursing homes. She was a devout member and long time greeter for the Plano Christian Church. Donna enjoyed gardening and was a member of Ladies Aid for numerous years.
She is survived by her three children, Kathy (David) Sherrard of Plano, Iowa, Rita (Allen) Johnson of Seymour, Iowa, and Theodore D. Sulser of Centerville, Iowa; five grandchildren, Lori (Chad) Clark, Joe David (Kathie) Sherrard, Tod Allen (Darlene) Johnson, Traci Fields, and Amanda (Jay) Millizer; twelve great grandchildren; a brother, Lowell H. Holmes “Junior” Jr. of Promise City, Iowa; and two sister-in-laws, Rita Rudd of Davenport, Iowa and Joann Johnson of Texas.
She was preceded in by her husband in 1995; her parents; an infant brother Edward; sisters Velma Swan and Betty Smith; a brother Arthur Slack; and a nephew Rick Holmes.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Plano Christian Church in Plano, Iowa with Pastor Michael McKissick officiating. Burial will follow in the Confidence Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville from 11 AM-8 PM, with the family present from 6-8 that evening.
