Summer camp often offers a place for children to make lifetime friendships and memories. This year Clear Lake Open Bible Church has continued its planned tradition of sending youth to camp.

“Each summer we send our kids to our camp; it’s down in Ogden,” says Pastor Will Hunsaker. “It’s the Assembly of God camp that we rent — ‘we’ being the central region of Open Bible.”

The camp of choice is Sunstream Retreat Center, located at 1130 Juneberry Road, in Ogden. According to the camp website, the sole mission of the facility is to serve God by providing a place where guests can escape, explore and enjoy time with God.

Open Bible Church teens in junior and senior high school are scheduled to be away at camp July 22 – 26, and a second camp for the younger kids, age third to fifth grade, will occur Aug. 5 – 8.

Sunstream has 42 guest rooms for up to 350 people in motel-, dorm- and suite-style lodging.

“They have speakers in the morning, and then in the evening they have all kinds of sports activities that they involve them in,” Hunsaker explains. “They have just about any type of sport.”

The camp has basketball, volleyball, soccer, dodge ball and even black light sports, just to name a few. Sunstream also features organized activities in the morning and free time for the kids to explore and do their own thing in the afternoon, according to Hunsaker.

Hunsaker estimated that 200 – 300 kids typically visit the camp at one time and of those, 10 – 25 of the kids are from Open Bible, making it a great opportunity for fellowship with new friends from different places and with different backgrounds.

Not only is the camp at Sunstream prime for forming new relationships, but it can be a thrilling adventure for campers, too. Located near the Des Moines River Valley, Sunstream campers have a unique opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. With five zip lines on the property, the camp allows its visitors to see the river from a completely different point of view.
