Posted July 03, 2013 in Community Featured, Perry

If you haven’t registered for the Summer Reading Program yet, you still can. Check out the schedule below for the exciting programs in July.

Dig into Reading
Children from age 2 through students who have finished fifth grade can participate in the Children’s Summer Reading Program. Our program theme this year is Dig Into Reading! In the weeks of July 7 and July 14, all the special programs will be about construction equipment. The Science Center of Iowa will be at the library on July 11 to present the program “What’s Neat Beneath our Feet.” On July 12 the library will host a movie, “Hoot,” and a snack starting at 4 p.m. Critter Cindy will be at the library on July 18 at 1 p.m. with the program “Dig into Digs,” telling us all about archeology. The Finale Party will once again be at the McCreary Recreation Center for an evening of family pool time.  Anyone who has read five hours can bring the whole family to enjoy the pool at the Rec Center.

Beneath the Surface
The Teen Summer Library Program is for students who have completed grades six – 12. This summer’s reading theme is Beneath the Surface. Continuing from June to July 24, we will have weekly programs involving archeology, time capsules, masked books and a Masquerade Mystery Finale party on July 24 in which only masked teens can attend. All participants reading can fill out a ticket for each hour you read for a chance to win an iPad or the surprise prize.

Groundbreaking Reads
The library is offering its fourth annual adult summer reading program called Groundbreaking Reads. As you read you will be awarded prizes such as a book bag, T-shirt, hat, apron, cell phone easel and an acrylic insulated cup with Perry Public Library imprinted on it. The more you read the more times you can enter to win one of our grand prizes which include a mini iPad, an overnight stay at the Hotel Pattee and a Barnes and Noble gift card. July adult programs include one on July 11 at the Carnegie Library Museum, where Kathy Winter of Stampin Up! will give an program on how to create origami flowers. This will be a hands-on program with you creating and taking home your flowers.  There is no fee, but please call to register. The adults will have a finale party on July 27, a wine tasting with Penoach Winery from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on July 25 in the library’s Community room.
