Richard A. “Dick” Soer, 73, passed away from this life on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Kavanagh Hospice House on 56th Street in Des Moines. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3663 66th St, Des Moines. Memorial visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Merle Hay Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Rd in Des Moines. A Rosary will be recited at 5:30 pm and a Scripture Service will begin at 7:30 pm, both at the Merle Hay Chapel. Burial of cremated remains will take place on a later date at the Calvary Cemetery in Victor IA.

Born July 30, 1939, the son of August and Leone Soer, he served in the United States Navy for three years. He was an industrial tool salesman for 35 years, and he also worked for Schwan’s, where he was awarded the President’s Club Award in 2002. In his retirement, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events, family gatherings, traveling, puzzles, reading, golf and watching the History Channel. He was a lifetime 3rd & 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Past Grand Knight of Council 532 in Davenport IA, and was a member of the Iowa State Family for many years. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Pius X Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Faye; son Tony (Nicole,) grandchildren: Zachary, Joseph, Elizabeth; a sister Pat (Albert); brother-in-law Gary Ostrom and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents August and Leone; brother Jerome; sons Michael (1968) and Daniel (1994); sister-in-law Judy Ostrom.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or Kavanagh Hospice House.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Trinity Medical Center Bettendorf, IA, Mercy Hospital Des Moines, IA, Manor Care West Des Moines, IA and Kavanagh Hospice House on 56th Street, Des Moines, IA for the loving care Dad received during his stays there.
