Having fun all summer long

Posted June 26, 2013 in Altoona, Community Featured

Welcome to summer in Altoona everyone!

Cindy MJuly puts summer activities in full swing from Independence Day celebrations with several fantastic fireworks displays, to the AACC Annual Golf Outing on Friday, July 12 at Terrace Hills Golf Course,  to a community wide Family Fun Bike Ride on Saturday, July 13. Fireside Grille will again host “Music on the Plaza” July 19 and July 26 from 6 – 9 p.m. — such a great way to wind down after a busy work week.

The Eastern Polk County Leadership class of 2012 is presenting Free Family Movie Nights at Thomas Mitchell Park on Friday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m., showing “The Lorax” and again on Saturday, July 27 at Copper Creek at 7:30 p.m. in Pleasant Hill showing “A Bug’s Life.” Bring the whole family, your picnic basket and blankets for this fun version of an outdoor theatre.

Our Business 101 classes have been very successful, and July’s session is no different. Des Moines Register Media will be guest professors again and will be guiding us through Social Media Reputation Management best practices. If you’re interested in learning more, call in your rsvp for a spot on Thursday, July 25. This class is free to Chamber members. Class is from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Altoona Public Library. Bring your own lunch and drink and laptop/iPad.

Coming in August (mark your calendar) will be the Iowa Classic Parade presented by Prairie Meadows on Saturday, Aug. 3. Businesses and organizations, put your floats together for a chance to win special recognition and cash prizes. Aug. 24 is the “Altoona Palooza” Community Wide Celebration. Altoona Palooza will include mud volleyball, a car show, live music, a kick ball tournament, inflatables and a play area for the kids, several vendors,  lots of food and so much more. The Altoona Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the produce and art market, and we are looking for vendors who have anything homemade, handcrafted or home grown. Cost to vend is just $50 for the entire day. For more information or to register to be a vendor, go to http://www.altoonachamber.org/en/choose_altoona/produce__art_market_2013/ !

These activities are just part of the experiences your Altoona Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring and promoting this summer for you, your family and your business to enjoy in this community. I hope to see you at many of these events. Have an outstanding summer.
