Richard ‘Dick’ Harris, age 79, of the Westhaven Community and formerly of Ogden, died at the Westhaven Community on June 20, 2013.

His body has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be Wednesday evening, June 26, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Rev. Dr. Tom Golding officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery at a later date.

Dick was born in Clarksville, Iowa, on April 20, 1934, the son of Clyde and Esther (Sinram) Harris.

He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1951 and then graduated from Cedar Rapids Barber College in Cedar Rapids.

On September 25, 1955, Dick married Maxine Nyhus in Clear Lake, Iowa.

He served with the United States Army in the late 1950’s.

Dick was a self employed barber, starting his profession in 1952.

He owned Boone Barber Service in Boone and worked beside his son Bradley for 15 years.

In later years, Dick also owned/operated Boone Monument Company which he sold in 1999.

He enjoyed collecting barber memorabilia, traveling with his wife, especially to Hawaii, and he loved the St. Louis Cardinals.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister Mary Johnson, and a brother Robert.

He is survived by a son Bradley of Boone and a daughter Diane Golding and husband Tom of Adelaide, South Australia; a sister Peggy Winchell of Missouri.

Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until service time. The family will be present after 6 p.m.

In memory of Dick, memorials may be directed to the family to help establish a scholarship for a student entering the nursing profession.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Westhaven Community and the Homeward Hospice of Ames.
