Stephen “Pat” Gipple of West Des Moines passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013 after a lengthy illness at the age of 68. Pat was born on July 15, 1944 in Messena, IA to Fern and Irene (Welsch) Gipple. After moving to Des Moines, he graduated from Roosevelt High School and Drake University. While at Drake he was a member of the Drake golf team and continued his life-long love of the game. He also enjoyed playing cards and watching sports. He loved writing and wrote several short stories and published a book in 1995. Completing the NY Times Crossword was a daily activity even in his final days.
In his early years, Pat worked for Westinghouse Lamp Division and Ross Laboratories as a sales representative. After moving to Davenport, he became an investment broker for Beyer & Co.
Pat is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jeanne; daughter, Erin (Tom) Ross of Davenport; two sons, Mike (Stephanie) of Morgantown, WV and Mark (Tammy) of Mesa, AZ; four grandchildren, Taylor, Lauren, Connor and Jamie. Also surviving are three brothers, Larry (Cleo) of Charlotte, NC, John (Sally) of Medford, OR and Michael (Janis) Gipple of Indianola and four sisters, Sherry (L.A.) Onken of Fountain Hills, AZ, Mary Kaye Manning of Tampa, FL, Rita (Roger) Bond of Georgetown, TX and Janice Gipple (Jan Berry) of Des Moines.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd. in Clive. No services will be held according to Pat’s wishes and cremation rites have been accorded.
