Phyllis M. Frenking, age 86, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson as Celebrant and Father Timothy Boeckelman Concelebrating. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:30 A.M. until the time of Mass on Friday. Gift bearers will be Ann Buss and Katherine Hosbein. Casket bearers will be James Buss, Tom Buss, Harm Buss, Michael Ward, William Hosbein, and Jim Millenacker. Music for the Mass will be by the Holy Spirit Choir with Barb McDermott as organist. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

Born on July 7, 1926 in Carroll, Iowa, she was the daughter of Dr. Joseph and Madeline (Nelson) Frenking. Phyllis grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1944. She then attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City and graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1948. Following college she moved to Chicago and worked as a chemist for General Foods for 45 years. In 1994 she moved back to Carroll to be close to her family. Phyllis was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Phyllis was very close to her family. She enjoyed reading, sewing, jig saw puzzles, and keeping up with politics.

Phyllis is survived by a brother John Frenking of Omaha, Nebraska, and a sister Madeline “Maggie” Buss of Glidden, Iowa; her nieces and nephews: Michael Buss and his wife Maria of Indianapolis, Indiana, Ann Buss of Helena, Montana, James Buss and his wife Mary of Denison, Iowa, Thomas Buss and his wife Faith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Harm Buss and his wife Kim of Glidden, Iowa, Mary Ward and her husband Michael of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Maureen Martin of Omaha, Nebraska; and several great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Richard Frenking in1994, and a sister-in-law Virginia Frenking in 2006.
