Jeff Irlbeck

Jeffrey J. Irlbeck, 51, of Maple River passed away on June 17, 2013 at his home in Maple River after a long struggle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Father Gary Snyder of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7:00 P.M. by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery in Maple River.

Born September 11, 1961 at Jefferson, Iowa, he was the son of Virgil and Rozetta (Moore) Irlbeck. During his lifetime he resided in Carroll and Maple River, Iowa, Hawaii and Colorado. He attended St. Lawrence School, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, and Kuemper Catholic High School.

Jeff joined the Marine Corps in 1982 and received basic training in California and was stationed as a military guard at the Pearl Harbor Memorial, Oahu, Hawaii. Upon leaving the military he lived in Hawaii and later moved to Denver, Colorado and worked in building construction. He moved back to Carroll and worked in home construction for several years. He has been employed by Chicago Northwestern and Union Pacific Railroad for the last twenty years. Jeff was diagnosed with cancer in January of 2012 and received extensive treatment at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll and The Mayo Clinic and Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Jeff enjoyed playing video games with his sister Lisa and his nephews Sean and Justin, building advanced remote control vehicles, owning a Harley Davidson motor cycle, collecting motorcycle memorabilia, and collecting decorative lights. He was a NASCAR fan and he enjoyed helping his dad with vehicles and yard work. Jeff also enjoyed researching and helping his mom with her perennial garden. He was exceedingly knowledgeable in technology and helping everyone who had problems. Jeff will be missed for his dry sense of humor, helping out anyone he could, and his favorite remark “it is what it is”.
