artstop, Des Moines’ cultural event that connected districts around the city, celebrated its final year in 2012.
The idea of artstop originated in 2007 at a memorial for local arts advocate Jan Shotwell and it grew into a large, annual event encompassing the Metro area. artstop introduced the community to the different cultural districts and neighborhoods in the city, providing opportunities for visual and performing artists to showcase their talents and building awareness of the variety of unique local businesses in the districts. Project Spaces was introduced in 2011 and successfully added a dynamic temporary public art element to the event.
