Even a non-believer would be inspired to praise God for the summer’s arrival after long, cold winter and a fussy, fickle spring that brought both tulip-wilting snow and 90-degree grass-burning weather within two weeks’ time in May. The Lord, as it’s so often said, certainly does work in mysterious ways.
The faithful have plenty to keep those hands, hearts and minds busy this summer in Adel. And just because school is on break doesn’t mean learning should be. The Ecumenical vacation Bible school will run from June 17-21. It is a combined effort between five area churches: Adel United Methodist, Adel First Christian Church, St. John’s Catholic Church, DeSoto Methodist Church and the Minburn Methodist Church.
Everyone in the community is welcome and encouraged to attend at one of three separate locations: Adel First Christian Church houses age 4 – kindergarten (completed), Adel United Methodist Church will have first – second grade (completed) and St. John’s Catholic Church will have third – fifth grade (completed). This year’s theme is “God’s Backyard Bible Camp: Under the Stars.” This event brings together the community both literally and spiritually for the benefit of children who will be brought together to learn about the Lord.
For more Information, visit the vacation Bible school website at www.vacationbibleschool.com/vbsadm or visit any of the churches for more information. Call Tammie Seaholm or Vicki Kollenkark at Adel UMC at 993-3791; Margie Livermore at St. John’s Catholic at 993-4482; or Heather Wachendorf at First Christian Church, 993-4514. A bus will start in DeSoto with stops at each site. Times will be determined at a later time.
Volunteers are always needed, and it’s a great way for local teens to stay active in the church and give back to community. Registration forms are on the website.
Then it’s time for some relaxing fun minus the “studying” at Adel United Methodist Church’s annual ice cream supper on June 26 from 5 – 7 p.m. During the evening beef burgers, baked beans, potato chips, homemade pies and cakes, homemade ice cream and beverages will be served. Everyone is invited to join for food, ice cream and conversation with friends and neighbors. There is no cost but there will be a free-will donation.
