Chamber is in full summer swing

Posted June 05, 2013 in Community Featured, Perry

Summer is finally here. There for a bit I was beginning to think it might not be coming this year.

With the warm weather upon us, the Chamber is in full swing.  We just celebrated the Raccoon River Valley Trail grand opening in Perry on June 1, and we look forward to getting out on our bikes and enjoying the newly-completed 72-mile trail loop. This is a great asset to our community, and I encourage everyone to get on their bikes and ride. Trail passes are $10 per year and can be purchased at the Raccoon River Valley Bike Company located right next door to the Hotel Pattee.

We are proud to be hosting a RAGBRAI overnight stop on July 22. The preparations are underway, and thanks to hundreds of volunteers we are going to be the best stop on the route this year.  If you would like to get involved, there are a number of ways to lend a helpful hand. Contact the Chamber at 465-4601, or stop by our office, and we will get you on board.

Our RAGBRAI theme is “Nothin’  But A Good Time,” and we are having an all ’80s party to go along with our entertainment headliners Hairball. We also have T-shirts for sale at the Chamber for $15, so make sure to check them out at www.perryia.org. All the proceeds are going to help support the organizing committee expenses. If you purchase a shirt, and wear it that night you get free admittance into Hairball along with a number of other deals at local merchants and restaurants leading up to RAGBRAI. Show your Perry pride and support Perry’s RAGBRAI overnight activities.

The housing committee is in need of local residents to volunteer their homes and yards for riders to stay. We have forms available at the Chamber or at www.perryia.org. This is a great way to show your Perry hospitality, meet new people and bring them back to visit. So let’s show them, “Nothin’ But A Good Time!”

RAGBRAI isn’t the only thing we have going on this summer.  We are proud to be hosting the Friday Fest concerts again in Pattee Park. We kick this off on June 21 with Rukkus. Music starts around 6:30 p.m. at the Pattee Park Band shell. There will be food vendors and kids’ games, or feel free to “Bring Your Own Basket” full of your favorite local food and drinks.  Beer and wine are permitted to those older than 21. Glass containers are not permitted on the grounds.

Remember, these events are a great way to showcase the great quality of life we have in Perry. Do your part to help out by welcoming these guests to our town and make them feel right at home.
