Francis “Fritz” Miller, 89, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 1, at the Woodward United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Fritz was born at home near Granger on January 19, 1924 to Clarence and Alta (Horton) Miller. He was raised on the farm near Granger and graduated from Granger High School as president of his senior class. Fritz attended the E.U.B. Church in Granger. He married Vone Born on a beautiful sunshiny day on February 21, 1946, at the Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. They made their home near Granger where they farmed for the next 13 years. They moved to Bradgate area and farmed there for the following 30 years before moving to Woodward in 1991 where Fritz continued to farm until his death.

Fritz was a member of the Woodward United Methodist Church and Woodward Public Library Board. He served as a foster grandparent at the Woodward State Hospital and as a Des Moines Township Trustee. Fritz was a kind, honest and fair steward of the land. He loved reading (especially James Herriot), birds, trees and creeks. Fritz loved being at home with his children, grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Fritz is survived by his wife LaVona, daughter, Elizabeth (Jim Cramer) Miller of Iowa City, daughter-in-law, Wilma Miller of Lovilia, IA, three granddaughters, Bonnie Rankin, Andrea Cramer and Marielle Cramer; two step-granddaughters, Shawn Sisler and Theresa Anderson; 5 step great-grandsons: Cade, Casey and Chandler Sisler and Mason and Tristan Long; two step great-granddaughters: Hanna and Lilly Anderson; one step great-great-grandchild, and two sisters, Wilma Miller of Reno, NV and Mildred Ricke of Granger. He was preceded in death by his son, Hal Curtis Miller.
