June 29, 1945 – May 14, 2013
Mrs. Ann Knox was born June 29, 1945 to Russell and Maggie (Montgomery) Wright in Lexington, Mississippi. She moved from Mississippi at a young age and was raised in Waterloo, Iowa where she graduated high school.
Ann was a loving and giving person. She married several times to Willie C. Newman, Joe Jorden, Sr., Earl Badue and Tommy Knox (twice). To those unions were born her children, Joe Jr. Annette and James. She later adopted Beauty Wadlington as her own. Ann was also foster mother to more than 25 children.
Ann loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved traveling when she was younger, but in her later years she became a real homebody. She spent her time listening to the blues, tending to her fish tanks and entertaining family and friends. Ann either liked you or she didn’t, and you didn’t have to wonder because she told you plainly. She lived her life her way and lived it to the fullest. Ann was very independent and thought you should be also. She would tell you, “You gotta do what you gotta do.” which meant get up and take care of your business.
Ann had already given Jesus her heart, and when He asked for her hand on May 14, 2013, she took it and walked into eternity. Waiting for Ann were her son, Willie C. Newman, Jr.; her father and step mother, Russell and Maggie Wright; her siblings, LeRoy Wright, Bertha Jackson, Robert Wright, Barbara Wilder and Donell Wright. She was also preceded by her husbands, Willie Newman, Earl Badue and Tommy Knox.
Ann is survived by her children, Joe Jorden, Jr., Annette (ConGarry) Jorden Williams, James E Badue and Beauty Wadlington; her siblings, Darlene Williams, Mattie McMillian, DeLoris (Willie) Franklin, Rev. Essie (Rev. Obadiah) Buls, Thomas (Joan) Wright, Rev. James (Vanessa) Wright, Sr., Rev. Clifford Wright, Teresa (Michael) Moore, Floyd (Linda) Wright, Rev. Lonnie (Quintella) Wright, Duane Wright, Dean Wright, Willie (Ethel) Washington and Mattie Moore, her “son” Hollis Jones; her ex-husband and friend, Joe Jorden, Sr.; 13 Grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.Information provided by: Henderson’s Highland Park Funeral Home 3500 Sixth Avenue
