Matthew Gregg “Matt” Erickson, 40, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013, in Granger, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 13, at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger, where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, at the church. A private committal service will take place at Kingsley Cemetery, in Kingsley, Iowa.

Matt was born on February 23, 1973, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Gregory and Ava (Stock) Erickson. He was a 1991 graduate of Woodward-Granger High School. On April 26, 2008, Matt was united in marriage to Denae Dawn Groepper in Urbandale, Iowa and to this union, two children were born. Matt was self-employed as a gifted carpenter. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Denae Erickson of Granger; children, Dax Matthew Chad Erickson and Piper Grace Erickson, both at home; father and mother, Gregory and Ava Erickson of Granger; paternal grandmother, Elsa Erickson of Ames, IA; paternal step-grandmother, Kathy Erickson of Madrid, IA; sister, Kari (Edmund) Abodeely of Marion, IA; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dave and Darcy Groepper of Kingsley, IA; two sisters-in-law, Abbie (Tim) Susie of Kingsley and Stephanie Groepper of Puyallup, WA; four nieces, Annmarie, Sophia and Helena Abodeely and Clarissa Groepper; and a host of extended family members including several aunts, uncles and many cousins. Matt was preceded into eternal life by his paternal grandfather, J. Fred Erickson; maternal grandparents, Merle Stock and Jeanne (Stock) Heldebrant; and brother-in-law, Spc Chad Groepper.

Matt will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
