Mother Teresa once said, “Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.”
That old saying holds true for CrossPointe Church, founded in 2000 in West Des Moines when it partnered with another church. Its small, yet active congregation continues to make a relatively sizable impact on the communities and people it serves without the creature comforts of having a building of its own or big money.
“We’re a small congregation on a mission from God,” says Pastor Terry Wilkinson, whose Sunday sermons can be heard at Hillside Elementary School where the congregation worships. “We have a 15-year history of ministering to special needs adults and 20 years of experience serving adults through an international program at Drake University. We also provide outreach for youth during summer programs.”
CrossPointe is teaming up with other churches to host the Jordan Park Camp for children in grades three through seven on June 17 – 20 at the campgrounds at 2251 Fuller Road. This year’s theme is “Holywood.”
“It’s a safe, fun, Christ-centered experience,” Wilkinson says, adding that participants can register by calling 462-6737.
Every Wednesday, the church caters to adults who meet in small groups from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. to share a meal and study the Bible. In the weeks ahead, participants will explore “Experiencing God” by Henry Blackaby.
“Our congregation is filled with seasoned seniors who want to make the last years of their lives count so we’ll talk about ‘Experiencing God’ and discuss how God fits into our lives and how God is moving through history like a freight train. He gives out invitations to join him and people who are in tune with God are in tune with themselves,” Wilkinson says.
Later this year, Wilkinson will join his wife and other church members on a mission trip to Cuba.
“God keeps revealing a vision for us,” he says. “Right now our focus is on Sunday morning services and Wednesday night groups as we look for people who want to make the last half of their lives be the best part of their lives.”CrossPointe Church
