The annual Boone Bash River Dash schedule has been announced and will be on June 22, 2013. This event is a canoe race or float that starts in the Boone River at Riverside Park (130 First Street) and ends at the canoe access of Briggs Woods County Park.
In addition to the Boone Bash River Dash, two years ago the Boone Bash Committee partnered with the Iowa Games and now hosts the Iowa Games Adventure Race in conjunction with the canoe race and float. The Adventure Race consists of teams of two persons who each do 8 to 10 miles of mountain biking, 3 to 5 miles of trekking, 5 miles of canoeing, and three team challenges. Please visit the Iowa Games website at www.iowagames.org to learn more about this event.
Plans have also started for the Third Annual Boone Bash Cardboard Regatta Race that will be held in the early afternoon on June 22 at Briggs Woods lake. This is a boat race in which the boats are primarily made out of cardboard.
At night the Fifth Annual Boone Bash Community Wide Picnic will be held at West Twin Park. This is a free cookout that will start at 5:30 p.m.
The Boone Bash planning committee consists of Ed Sadler (City Manager), Deb Brown (Chamber of Commerce) Josh Lovelace (The Daily Freeman Journal), Kim Parks (KQWC), Kent Bailey (On-Hold Productions), Kelly Haman (Briggs Woods Golf Course), John Laird/Scott Grimm (Hamilton County Conservation), Tyler Abens (Abens Realty), Brian Stroner (City of WC), Beth Chelesvig (City of WC), Ann Smith (City of WC), Duane Reinsch (Ham Radio Club), and Kent Harfst (City of WC).
