The Dogg House Bar & Grill near Rathbun Lake has a lot to offer, including one long-standing tradition: all-you-can-eat fish on Friday nights.
On a recent Friday night, the restaurant was packed with customers enjoying the fish fry even though the March snow made enjoying the lake pretty unlikely.
The fish, battered and fried north Atlantic cod, is available from 5 – 8 p.m. on Fridays for $10.99. It is served with coleslaw, french fries, a dinner roll and tartar sauce. The wait staff won’t let the amount of food on your plate get too low before topping it off from their baskets of fish.
The canine theme is carried throughout the menu. The “puppy menu” contains the options for kids, and one of the specialty pizzas is the “Junk Yard Dogg.” Pork wings with barbecue sauce are “dogg bones.” “Dogg’s Super Barker” sounds like a pretty tasty addition to the theme: a fluffy baked potato loaded with six ounces of lean ham, onions, American cheese, sour cream and butter for $6.99.
The restaurant also offers a range of sandwiches, including a reuben, a patty melt, a tenderloin, a grilled pork loin, a Philly cheese steak, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and a grilled chicken breast.
If you are in the mood for something more substantial, there are also dinner entrees, including fried chicken, ham steak, shrimp, ribeye, T-bone and New York strip. Dogg’s advertises its bloody mary as its specialty drink, but also offers a full bar.
The restaurant is only one of the many amenities for campers at Dogg’s RV-Park. Some of the many activities include horseshoes, basketball, miniature golf, pool tables, a shuffleboard table, arcade games, a playground, an in-ground pool and a juke box.
During the warmer months, a tiki bar out back provides campers and swimmers with a place to relax with a drink.
It is clearly a place with a lot of appeal for locals as well. A mural in the back room depicts the faces of many of the regular customers. The Dogg House Bar & Grill
