Mildred Baker, age 92, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died March 19, 2013, in the Hearth Stone Memory Care Unit of the Eastern Star Home.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 25, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Eastern Star Masonic Home with Rev. Kristen Pike officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery.
Mildred Irene Buechler Baker was born in Ridgeport on May 15, 1920, the daughter of Dewey and Mable (Sample) Buechler.
She graduated from Boone High School in 1940.
On January 31, 1940, Mildred married Arnold Baker in Bethany, Missouri.
She was a homemaker.
Mildred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, and baking bread, pies, and cakes.
In earlier years, she enjoyed raising her children.
Mildred also enjoyed playing cards with her card clubs.
After her husband retired, the couple enjoyed camping at Storm Lake and Don Williams Lake.
Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother Ivan Buechler.
She is survived by three sons Gerald Baker and wife Mary Ann of Decorah, Gale Baker of Boone, and Ned Baker of Huxley; two daughters Judith Thompson of Ankeny and Donna Russell and husband Michael of Indianola; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call on Monday at the Chapel of the Eastern Star Masonic Home from 9:15 a.m. until service time. The family will be present during this time and light refreshments will be available.
In memory of Mildred, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
