You can check the news just about any day of the week and find more than enough bad news to go around.
The typical news cycle will include information about the latest conflict in the Middle East, statistics on unemployment rates and news about the latest criminal act in the region. These are real things, and one should not make light of them. That is certainly not the intention here. However, if we allow all of our attention to focus on the rough stuff, we might make the terrible mistake of not recognizing all the wonderful things we have right here in Grimes.
Every day there is something to celebrate in our community. Depending on your personal tastes, the reasons to celebrate might vary by individual. My list would include the smell of a fresh brewed cup of coffee from a local coffee shop, seeing healthy, intelligent and seemingly happy children in just about every neighborhood, and being around so much attractive growth. I celebrate every day the number and quality of great local business owners who have a sincere commitment to their companies and the community in which they reside.
If that is not enough, the most important things like family, friends and co-workers are on display in all corners of the community. We have great parks, trails, recreational amenities, attractions; everywhere you look there is something to celebrate.
A few times a year, the members of Grimes Chamber & Economic Development like to offer the community opportunities to celebrate together and big events such as Experience Grimes; A Tasteful Business Expo, the annual Easter Eggstravaganza, Governors Days or the Holiday Celebration. We celebrate that we have such great teachers in our community, we celebrate in the community, we celebrate at the schools, we celebrate on the golf course. We try to celebrate as often as we can.
Now, we challenge you. We challenge you to make your own list of things to celebrate about Grimes. You can keep the list to yourself, share it with neighbors, tell your family, or you can even share it with us. Starting today, we welcome you to post something on the Grimes Chamber & Economic Development Facebook page (www.facebook/GrimesIowa).
We look forward to hearing from you.
