After a big day my mother, daughter and I decided to grab lunch at BangBang Mongolian Grill. I was craving something filling and thought the all-you-can-eat style of this restaurant would fit the bill.

We were greeted by a few hostesses and immediately seated at a cozy corner table that fit a highchair easily and safely. I was familiar with the style of make-your-own meals, but my mother was less sure. The server graciously offered to take her through the stations and show her how the service worked. She showed off the nacho bar and salad bar before showing Mom where she could load meat, noodles, vegetables, sauces and spices into a bowl before watching a chef cook it right in front of your eyes.

In a short time, she was back at the table and let me take my turn. I decided to pass on the nachos and salad, but delved right into the rest. I started with some large pieces of chicken and sausage, and then added a healthy portion of pad thai noodles. I surveyed the large array of vegetable mixes filled with peppers, green beans, water chestnuts and more. I decided to go with a mix that included some onions and carrots. Next, I noticed a bowl of eggs sitting next to the vegetables, and I couldn’t resist adding that to my pile.

Finally, I went to the sauces station. There was everything I could think of and more. Above the array were some suggestions of sauce recipes which I found helpful. I went with the pad thai sauce that seemed easy to make and sounded just perfectly spicy.

As I rounded the corner and watched two chefs make my meal, I salivated just looking at the delicious custom mix. As they piled everything into a bowl, I sat down at the table and couldn’t wait to dig in.

It was spicy, hearty and seriously delicious. The egg rounded out the heaviness of the other ingredients, and the onions gave it a great taste. With all the ingredients available, our eyes were too big for our stomachs. We were both left with a hefty helping leftover in our bowls, but full tummies nonetheless.
